Start of the economic crisis. The Anti-Revolutionary prime minister Hendrik Colijn pursues cautious economic policies. In 1936 the Netherlands is among the last countries in the world to abandon the gold standard (under which each unit of currency is redeemable in exchange for a set amount of gold).
